Description

Microsoft Excel is the chosen spreadsheet package as it is a popular choice, both on Macintosh and PC.

Prerequisites

Basic computing skills i.e. equivalent knowledge attained from attending the Windows Essential Basics (Level 1) and Windows File Handling and Desktop Skills (Level 2).

Topics covered
  • Building a new workbook (data entry and formulae)
  • Modifying an existing workbook
  • Worksheet shortcuts (AutoFill, copying and moving cells, inserting and deleting rows and columns, AutoSum)
  • Enhancing the appearance of a worksheet
  • Enhancing printed output
  • Controlling worksheet display
Format

Presentations, demonstrations and self-paced practicals.

System requirements

Excel 2007 on PWF Windows

Notes
  • This course will be taught using Excel 2007 on PCs (Windows XP) but Macintosh users of Excel 2008 should also find it useful.
  • Anyone wishing to copy the course exercise files should bring a USB memory stick or they can be downloaded from, http://www-tus.csx.cam.ac.uk/courses/files/
  • Self-taught courses are also available.
