Much of the session comprises a case study based on a medium sized University department. Delegates will examine University regulations and procedures and decide the actions for various scenarios and correct anomalies for selected sources of funds.

This programme of three short courses will give you some tips that might make your life easier when trying to extract data from CUFS, working with it in Excel and presenting it as meaningful financial information.
The splitting of the programme into three, two-hour sessions provides an opportunity for users to practice and consolidate their learning in between the events. Whereas Part 3 can be attended at any time, it is recommended that users attend Part 1 before Part 2, as we will be building upon the knowledge of the former in the second stage. However, users may if they prefer to wait a month or so before attending the second session.

Participants will not be asked to present.

Your lab notebook is one of the most important and precious objects you, as a scientist, will ever have. This session explore how keeping an exemplary laboratory notebook is crucial to good scientific practice in lab research. The course will consist of a short talk, a chance to assess some examples of good and bad practice, with plenty of time for questions and discussion. You might like to bring along your own lab notebook for feedback. (Please note that issues relating to protection of Intellectual Property Rights will not be covered in this session)

This is a Mac Pro Video tutorial on iMovie, Apple's video editing software. The DVD can be used on Macs (although advertised as being usable under Windows, we have had no success in doing so). As well as the basics it covers advanced topics such as streaming video into iMovie in realtime, outputing video podcasts with embedded URLs, and round-tripping between iMovie and GarageBand to improve sound.

This Classroom in a Book is published by Adobe and provides self-paced training suitable for both new and more experienced users of InDesign. It is structured as a series of step-by-step lessons. Files for the lessons are provided on a CD.
InDesign is a desktop publishing package available for both Macs and PCs which is used to build up a publication from ready-prepared text, images and graphics in the same way as QuarkXpress and PageMaker. Participants use pre-written text and scanned-in pictures to assemble and produce a double-sided, two-column newsletter using InDesign.
